For a few months now I’ve been doing my best to finish all my writing before 5 PM, simply because I’m more productive and happier that way. Before, I’d noticed that I’d often begin writing in the morning, take a mid-session break, and then delay my return by several hours until it was nighttime, and at that point either something new would come up or I’d just be too tired to go back to work. And my solution was to try to start finishing everything by 5 PM.
It’s been awesome. And I don’t think my productivity has really suffered, either.
Now I’m taking the next step. For years, I’ve been shunting my blog writing to the end of the day, with the result that my blog often gets the ends and leavings of my brain. So now I’m making a concerted effort to also finish all my social networking tasks by 5 PM.
Yesterday was the first day when I consciously implemented this plan, and it was glorious. Evening rolled around and I had absolutely nothing I had to do! I went out to dinner, then came home, did some reading and went to sleep.
Today I’m a little behind (writing this at 5:25), but I anticipate a similar amount of relaxation when 11 PM rolls around.
