Once upon a time, I read in a book that meditation helps to improve your willpower. Ever since then, I’ve made an attempt to meditate. It has not been tremendously successful. Meditating is boring, and my mind always wanders. I’ve never found it enjoyable. The most I can say for it is that it’s not as terrible as I thought it would be.
However, I was recently reading a book and I started thinking hey, you know what. This is a lot like meditating. Even with good books, you have to constantly refocus your attention and make sure you’re reading the words on the page. And if your mind drifts a bit, it’s not exactly terrible, but you still need to do something to bring yourself back, oh wait what am I doing and then I attempted to refocus on the page.
So yes, I think that reading might do the same things for you that meditation is supposed to do. I will say MIGHT do. It is a hypothesis, and not one that has been at all proven.
