At AWP, along with a lot of other people

I’m currently at the Association of Writing Programs conference in Seattle, along with soooooooooooo many other people. This is my second time (I also went to last year’s, in Boston), and I feel a bit less isolated than last time, but I am still one person in a vast crowd. Anyway, won’t be much substantive blogging for awhile.

And, of course, I still have to put the finishing touches on my talk for my 10:30 AM panel tomorrow. You should come. It will be an unforgettable experience. I am pretty sure that lives will be changed.

I got a ton of good reading done in the plane! I read Jonathan Dee’s The PrivilegesIt’s truly an excellent novel. Dee takes those awful yuppie characters–an investment banker and his beautiful stay-at-home wife–that every other novelist does their best to portray as vapid and miserable creatures, and he makes them seem quite heroic. He dares to try to ennoble their pursuit of money and social status. I highly recommend it.
